Oceanfront Bungalow, Cherry Grove Beach

Cherry Grove is the Grand Strand's northern edge, and it has spent decades quietly becoming the most interesting real estate on it.

The geography explains everything. Where most of the coast offers a single row of oceanfront and then subdivision behind it, Cherry Grove is threaded with a network of tidal canals — the "fingers" — that push saltwater deep into the neighborhood. The result is an unusual abundance: homes with the Atlantic out the front door and a private dock out the back, or channel-front properties where the boat lift is a few steps from the kitchen. From your own slip, you're into Hog Inlet, the ocean, or the Intracoastal Waterway within minutes.
The rhythm here is genuinely coastal. Mornings mean casting nets off the dock or dropping crab traps that will produce dinner by afternoon. Kayaks and paddleboards disappear into the marsh at high tide, where the grass runs gold and the wading birds outnumber the people. Cherry Grove Pier — rebuilt, handsome, and a local institution — draws anglers before sunrise and everyone else at sunset for the view from the observation deck.
The beach itself is broad and gently sloped, notably quieter than the strand to the south, and it stays that way even in July.
Culturally, Cherry Grove sits within North Myrtle Beach, which means the shag is never far. Main Street's Ocean Drive district is the birthplace of the state dance, and Fat Harold's, Duck's and the SOS Migration weekends keep a tradition alive that is equal parts nostalgia and genuine good time. Barefoot Landing supplies waterfront dining and shopping; the golf, meanwhile, is exceptional — Tidewater's marsh-and-ocean routing ranks among the best in the Carolinas, with Barefoot Resort's four championship courses ten minutes away.
For a buyer, Cherry Grove offers a combination that is increasingly rare: a relaxed, unpretentious beach-town culture, deep-water access at a fraction of comparable coastal markets, and rental demand strong enough that the property can carry itself between visits.
It's the sort of place families buy once and then hold for three generations. Ask anyone on the canal — most of them did exactly that.
